Max Diffey
Managing Director
Max has been in the industry since 2016 and assumed responsibility for Breathe Laboratory (UKAS No. 8856) in 2017. This included maintenance of the ISO 17025 accreditation, whilst also being the primary test engineer and progressing several extensions to scope. At the same time, Max was ISO 9001 Quality Manager and ISO 14001 EMS Manager for the wider Breathe Safety Group.
Since then he has overseen the development and growth of the laboratory as a standalone business unit and founded Global Compliance Services (GCS) Ltd in 2025.
Max’s primary responsibilities are:
- Maintenance of ISO 17025 accreditation
- Business development and customer relations
- Contributing to standards development and technical committee discussions
- Project management
- Staff training and auditing
Jason Graves
Technical Manager
Since 1992 Jason has been involved in the Respiratory Protection industry, and previous roles have included accredited RPD testing, PPE regulatory affairs, application engineering, RPD product design, PAPR & filter manufacturing, technology development, RPD outsource management, intellectual property portfolio evolution, auditing quality and EHS systems, and laboratory management.
Jason is responsible for:
- Maintaining UKAS accreditation
- Auditing quality management systems
- Extending ISO 17025 testing scope
- Commissioning new equipment
- Hosting witness testing days
Charlotte Carr
Laboratory Operations Manager
Charlotte has worked in laboratory environments since 2013, with extensive experience in the pharmaceutical industry. Beginning as an apprentice in a materials testing laboratory, she has worked her way through a range of technical and leadership roles, including setting up new laboratories and managing analytical teams. She is passionate about continuous improvement, fostering a positive team culture, and bringing structure to complex processes.
Charlotte is responsible for:
- Maintenance of ISO 17025 accreditation
- Project coordination
- Laboratory scheduling
- People management
- Continuous improvement and operational excellence
Matthew Bispham
Laboratory Team Leader
Matthew has been working within laboratory environments since 2012 and roles have included CBRN work for the Ministry of Defence, testing and validation of novel chemical sensor concepts, GMP biopharmaceutical work, instrument calibration and medical systems testing and development.
On a day-to-day basis Matthew carries out:
- CE/UKCA type approval testing
- Pre-approval and development testing
- Commissioning of new equipment
- Facility maintenance
- Daily management of projects and record keeping
- Training and support of laboratory engineers
Hugo Parker
Laboratory Test Engineer
Hugo has over 10 years’ experience working in laboratories, including medical device testing and biopharmaceutical manufacturing and development. He joined GCS in 2025 and is responsible for:
- CA type approval testing
- Pre-approval and development testing
- Facility maintenance
- Daily management of projects and record keeping
Joel Biju
Laboratory Test Engineer
Joel is a recent Business and Management graduate, with specialities in Project Management and Marketing. Joel is an enthusiastic team player and is working as a Test Engineer to gain a grounding in a projects business. Day-to-day, Joel is responsible for:
- CA type approval testing
- Pre-approval and development testing
- Facility maintenance
- Daily management of projects and record keeping
Jan Chwalek
Test Technician
Jan has over 6 years’ experience working in chemical laboratories, on projects involving analytical chemistry, thermal analysis of gear lubricants using Differential Scanning Calorimetry, and R&D chemical manufacturing. He joined GCS in September 2026 and is responsible for:
- CA type approval testing
- Pre-approval and development testing
- Facility maintenance
- Daily management of projects and record keeping
